All in Museum
The Oceanário de Lisboa (Lisbon’s Oceanarium) is the largest indoor aquarium in Europe. It holds an impressive 5 million litres of seawater and includes some pretty amazing creatures in its exhibitions. If ichthyology is your thing, you’d be in heaven but if you enjoy marine biology in general this is an absolute must if you’re ever around Lisbon.
Back in December 2019, I visited the Sedgewick Museum of Earth Sciences in Cambridge with my little brother, Caio, and our friend, Kemi. I had planned to write about it then, but Covid happened and it somehow just completely escaped my mind. However, I was going through some old photographs and found some gems from that day - hence the belated post.
About two years ago, I wrote a short post on the parallels between Magizoology in the wizarding world and Zoology in real life. I wrote it after visiting the Warner Bros. Studio Tour in London of “The Making of Harry Potter”, aka Harry Potter World. Little did I know that the Natural History Museum in London would eventually run an exhibition dedicated to the same concept, so as you can imagine, I was beyond excited to see it.
In December 2019, I visited the Grant Museum of Zoology in London with a couple of friends, and given our current situation, I thought it would be a good time to write about that visit and daydream about my next one!
Visiting natural history, palaeontology and science museums whenever I visit a new city is something of a tradition to me. This time, I had the pleasure of visiting the Natural Sciences Museum of Barcelona or Museu de Ciències Naturals de Barcelona. The museum is located in a part of Barcelona that I can only describe as what looked like the ‘business’ quarter. Getting there from the centre of Barcelona was pretty easy and the Museum is a very short walk from the Meresme-Forum metro station.
On the 29th June we visited the National Museum of Natural History and Science in Lisbon. This is my second trip to Portugal but my first to Lisbon. The Museum is located near ‘Estacao do Rato’ and features a Botanical Garden right next to it. The entrance was around 5 euros but for an extra euro, you get access to the Botanical Garden as well.
